It was released on January 27, 2009, very close to the film’s theatrical release. It was released on PlayStation 2, Wii, and Nintendo DS. The game’s score was composed and produced by Mark Watters. The score was recorded and mixed by Tim Bryson at Robert Irving Studios (based in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles) and Watter Music (based in Chatsworth, Los Angeles). The only three actors to reprise their roles from the film are Dakota Fanning as Coraline, Keith David as the Cat, and Robert Bailey Jr. as Wyborn “Wybie” Lovat. The remaining roles are filled by voice actors Kath Soucie, Amanda Troop, JB Blanc, Susanne Blakeslee, and Dave Foquette. During her exploration of the house, Coraline discovers an ancient well and meets a young man named Wyborn “Wybie” Lovat, the which is the grandson of the owner of the house and her black cat that is not really hers. The boy explains that the well is so deep that from the bottom the night sky can be seen in broad daylight. He also tells her that he is surprised that her family has moved into the house, since her grandmother does not usually rent it out to families with children. The boy leaves when his grandmother calls him before explaining why. Before leaving, Wybie tells Coraline that the branch she had taken earlier, saying it is a dowser’s wand, is poisonous, causing her hand to chafe.
